It was going to be hot in Portland, so we decided to pack up the pooches and head to the beach!
Brother and sister...not fighting in the car
We are fortunate that BnB are great travelers, so long as they haven't eaten a bunch of sticks prior to leaving. Last time, we had to make an emergency landing to clean up a little Baxter barf. This time, we were prepared and put a Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-69054248065809877702010-07-21T20:06:00.000-07:002010-07-21T20:06:20.343-07:00Tongue-waggin' Good TimeBella loves the ball, but Baxter loves the Frisbee.
After a round or two (or three, or ten...) of catch with the ball, it was Baxter's turn to shine with the Frisbee.
He hasn't quite learned to "catch" the Frisbee, he sorta just lets us throw it and then he runs to pick it up. He's quite proud of himself, but it's very likely he's just glad Bella didn't get it first. If he was smart, he'd know Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-68408719402965212022010-07-19T20:07:00.000-07:002010-07-19T20:08:43.087-07:00Play Ball!Bella and Baxter love to play ball....well, uh, more like Bella loves to play ball and Baxter wishes he could play ball. She's a ball hog!
Baxter finally gets the ball but the whole time she's chasing him down. For some reason, he doesn't stand up to her when it comes to playing catch - I guess he picks his battles.
Bella is getting quite good at catching mid-air. This is the first "documented" Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-39090729194311109092010-07-08T21:04:00.000-07:002010-07-08T21:04:12.803-07:00Baxter is a Sly FoxThe rule around here is that no dogs are allowed on the furniture. Consequently, while in this training period, we have all sorts of crap piled up and around the couch and chairs so BnB won't get on them.
Well, I was working away in the office when it finally dawned on me that I hadn't heard the dogs in a while so I went to investigate. Here's what I found.
He's too cute to yell Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-20997221757259953642010-06-18T20:23:00.000-07:002010-06-18T20:23:19.062-07:00Quick BnB UpdateThe days of colitis are all but a distant memory! Everyone's pooping normal again! One never realizes how important poop is until it just ain't right!
As it turns out, BnB are allergic to dog food so they're eating Science Diet Z/D Ultra prescription dog food. It's expensive but at least ED isn't visiting anymore. (Sung to the tune of YMCA)If you're familiar at all with the Northwest right now, you'd know that we've had unseasonable rain...Rain...RAIN! In fact, if you were to log on to Facebook and read any Oregonian's post, it would likely be a complaint about the weather. When Saturday showed up with glorious weather, I put on my work clothes and got busy.
I've been desperately wanting to build a square foot garden; in fact, I Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-39488857299559338672010-06-03T20:10:00.000-07:002010-06-03T20:10:29.797-07:00BnB Have Their Photos DoneOh joy! Oh glee! We love these illustrations of Bella and Baxter! These photos were done by Kelly of CorgiButts.com. I love these so much I'm almost giddy!

When it's too wet outside, they play chase inside. We practically have a race track worn into the carpet. Notice how Baxter huffs and puffs as he runs; and watch Bella's bum as she backs up during the chase!

They're both still struggling with colitis -- it's like a poop factory around here! They are getting better though, and living on a diet of white rice with softened kibble.
Back to the point of this post.
Sort of by accident, we discovered BnB are both willing to dunk their snouts in the water bowl to retrieve ice. We'd Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-1128212117314183682010-05-16T18:37:00.000-07:002010-05-16T18:37:46.186-07:00BnB turn OneBella and Baxter turned one year old today! These two little dogs are the loves of our lives even if they have eaten shoes, slippers, linoleum, wood molding, and dig holes in the back yard.
For their birthday, we took them through the drive-thru at Jack 'n the Box for a plain cheeseburger. We're not at all sure if they really understood why, but we did. And...they didn't give two hoots about us Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-19105832064089037622009-12-29T19:00:00.000-08:002009-12-29T19:00:37.454-08:00BnB Meet Snow! We've waited patiently for snow so we could see Bella and Baxter's reaction and finally, it's here! Their response: a bit confused. Every now and then I'd find Baxter on the back porch barking into the air, "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" They don't get it.
I think all the excitement wore them out though - they're sound asleep...and it's only 7pm!Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-73870368490970276822009-12-14T15:45:00.000-08:002009-12-14T15:45:25.416-08:00The Whereabouts of BnBBella and Baxter are doing fine -- my hard drive, not so much. I have to replace it which means time; that of which I have none! Sorry, but no pictures this post.
Bella and Baxter are going to obedience training and doing great! Baxter has become a master with several of the agility pieces; climbing up one side and down the other, through the tube, etc. He's also learning "leave it" which has Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-31568294950302592292009-11-23T05:00:00.000-08:002009-11-23T07:14:31.793-08:00Is It Okay to Kiss a Stranger?Dear Internet,
Thank you. Thank you for suggesting we take BnB to PetSmart for nail trimming.
We knew it was about time to tackle the task of trimming BnB's nails again and we weren't looking forward to it. I decided to give the professionals a call, warning them that these two are difficult. They shrugged off my warnings as nothing. Of course, I rolled my eyes at their naiveté because, after Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-321814660706898842009-11-22T14:19:00.000-08:002009-11-22T14:19:26.018-08:00Practically PerfectIt's been a while since my last post because, quite frankly, life has gotten in the way. Bella and Baxter continue to grow and eat...everything - baseboards, linoleum, microwave carts, crates, and toys. Now one might think they are bored, left alone too long, or just plain out of control, but let me assure you, they are not bored or left alone -- out of control at times, YES.

I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem...okay, yes I am, but this is the hardest bout of claw trimming I've EVER had to do.
Insert photo here because we surely weren't going to take any photos or video for fear Animal Cops would show up on our doorstep!
Our other dogs would wrestle us when they were pups, sure. Eventually they would Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-24782572700912389712009-10-19T05:00:00.000-07:002009-10-19T05:00:06.809-07:00The Great Pumpkin...PatchAnother first for BnB -- a pumpkin patch! Well, not really a pumpkin patch but one we threw together so they'd at least get to see a pumpkin this Fall/Halloween season. I desperately wanted to take them to a pumpkin patch, but here in the Northwest, it's pretty soggy and muddy. As fond as I was of the idea, I wasn't so fond of the idea of having to put 2 wet and muddy dogs in the car. So here youAnniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-70665829262766981062009-10-18T05:00:00.000-07:002009-10-18T11:04:21.873-07:00Baby Teeth!Baxter lost his first three baby teeth (that we know of)!!!
*Update - he's now lost 4 teeth. Interesting thing though - Bella spit out Baxter's 4th tooth. We have no idea what sort of shenanigans went on to produce that outcome, but we checked and Bella has lost no teeth, but Baxter was missing another. Go figure.
Here's a picture before:
And after:
They look a little gross because he had Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-25193078289384759082009-10-16T05:00:00.000-07:002009-10-16T09:25:12.265-07:00Leash Lessons* Made corrections to link!
If you're in the market for a good training dog leash, check out the Mutt Gear Vir-Chew-Ly Indestructible dog leashes. After a leash broke on us while we were walking Bella (thank goodness she didn't run off - or worse yet, into the street), we knew we had to get something that would last.
We have 2 of Mutt Gear's Vir-Chew-Ly Indestructible leashes and they're great Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-46880546044269946922009-10-14T07:11:00.000-07:002009-10-14T07:13:08.000-07:00DismembermentBnB love their toys! We're keenly aware puppies need chew toys so we've loaded up! We have a basket in the kitchen, a basket in the basement, a scattering of toys in the office, toys in the dining room, and toys in the bedroom. They have tons of toys (in addition to the requisite rawhides left slimed all around the house), and we keep buying them.
One day BnB were playing in the kitchen Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-86954727573729711572009-10-12T05:00:00.000-07:002009-10-12T05:00:00.546-07:00YappersIf you know anything about corgis, you know that not only are they cute, but they also have a tendency to yap. "Yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yap....do I have your attention now?"
Bella is the most vocal of the two. Watch out Metropolitan Opera!
Baxter does his fair share, and I must say, his bark has gotten a bit higher pitched since the removal of his *ahem* boy parts.
Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-7909910714701733772009-10-10T05:00:00.000-07:002009-10-13T10:17:39.720-07:00New DigsAs much as BnB play loudly in the car, so loud in fact, we almost lose consciousness, we decided the best mode of transportation was to have them in separate crates. We didn't think much of it until they broke our hearts by peering through the small window-like openings at each other...and then whimpering. Can you say: WRAPPED AROUND OUR TINY FINGERS?
I had been planning on creating some Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-2367638775230448592009-10-08T12:20:00.000-07:002009-10-08T12:20:59.927-07:00Mr. & Miss FebruaryBnB are cute, no exception...and because they are as cute as they are, they won a contest! Well, not really a "cuteness contest" per se, but a calendar contest! Bella and Baxter will be featured on the February layout.
The great thing about this Calendar Contest is that profits from the sale of this calendar benefit the Lakeshore Corgi Rescue Club in Illinois. But I live in Oregon, so why not Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-88762411710871317122009-10-08T05:00:00.000-07:002009-10-08T07:45:33.818-07:00More Games than the OlympicsBnB are quite the characters (if you haven't guessed). They do this song and dance when it comes to a rawhide...
Baxter: I want it!
Bella: NO I want it!
When one has it, the other spends an inordinate amount of energy trying to distract or otherwise send the other one on a snipe hunt so that rawhide can be stolen in victory! Most of the time, Bella doesn't really want it - she just doesn't Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-41961940209335949482009-10-06T21:29:00.000-07:002009-10-06T22:36:09.626-07:00Absence Makes the Heart Grow FonderBella and Baxter have had a rough couple of weeks since their Gender Nullification procedure! We had to keep them separated per Vet's orders, and while it wasn't fun for any of us, we certainly didn't want to run the risk of a torn stitch or worse yet, another trip to the OR.
Even once they had their cones off, we still had to wait until they could be in the same room. Why, you ask? Because Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8380031664407327937.post-13644758751085615122009-09-21T15:00:00.000-07:002009-09-21T15:00:03.761-07:00Saving Our Pennies for CollegeWe heard that if trained, your dog will use an electric toothbrush (in our case, battery-operated). Since we have single-handedly funded our Vet's office Christmas party on more than one occasion, we thought it would be worth the try.
I started by using my electric toothbrush around them. They were quite interested in it. Every now and then I'd stick it down toward them and they'd tray to grab Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00789538186966391509noreply@blogger.com3
